An upcoming expo event will offer an up-close look at the entertainment industry in DeKalb County and provide resources for people looking to get involved.

The DeKalb Entertainment Commission’s annual Entertainment Expo will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. The commission picked an appropriate location for the event: North DeKalb Mall, the half-vacant shopping center that has recently become a popular filming destination.

The expo is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about the industry in DeKalb or is looking to establish a presence in film, television, music and digital entertainment, the commission said in a statement. It will include panel sessions, master classes, meetings with industry professionals, and take-home resources.

“Whether you are a seasoned professional, just starting out in the industry or looking to make a career change, all attendees will walk away with a wealth of knowledge,” the commission said.

Special guests at the expo will include actress DeEtta West, director and producer Samad Davis and Asante Bradford, who works with the state’s department of economic development

From 5 to 10 p.m. on the day of the expo, organizers will host screenings of movies including “One Child Left Behind,” “Black Girls Guide to Fertility” and “Clarkston.”

You’ll need a ticket to attend the expo; they range from $15 to $40 and can be purchased online. The commission is also looking for volunteers for the event.
