DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The latest statistics released by the department Thursday night, show more than 5,400 cases of the virus across the state with 176 deaths so far.
The boy is the youngest Georgian to die from the virus, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
According to the department’s website, the boy had an underlying condition, but it did not disclose the boy’s name or what condition he suffered from.
Gov. Brian Kemp signed a shelter-in-place order for the entire state on Thursday because of the virus. That order will take effect at 6 p.m. Friday.
The order requires Georgians to remain at home unless conducting or participating in essential services, performing necessary travel or are part of the workforce for critical infrastructure.
The measure is intended to help slow the spread of the virus that has infected more than 1 million people across the globe.
