A prominent shared office space company is coming to downtown Decatur.
WeWork, known for its modern, spacious offices, will take up all of the office space at a new mixed-use development that could open early next year, the city of Decatur announced.
The development at 120 West Trinity Place, just north of Decatur High School and near the DeKalb County Courthouse, will have 33,000 square feet of office space for WeWork, as well as 330 apartments and 19,000 square feet of retail. It’s the location of Decatur’s old Callaway Building.
Companies or individuals can pay a monthly fee to gain access to WeWork’s shared office space. Members can have their own desk or share common areas. They also have conference rooms, shared printing and some nice perks like coffee and craft beer on draft.
The company already has a number of locations around metro Atlanta. The Decatur work space will be able to accommodate 540 WeWork members.
“The City of Decatur has always been supportive of smaller, creative businesses that are entrepreneur-driven, so combining this new building with the announcement by WeWork brings much needed office space and an expanded environment for 21st century businesses in our downtown district,” Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett said in a statement.
Construction is currently underway at the 4.7-acre site, which was once owned by DeKalb County and was purchased by the Decatur Downtown Development Authority in 2013 for roughly $5 million in the hopes of eventually redeveloping the space.
Atlanta-based office developers REIT Cousins Properties bought the property from the city in 2016.
