Several community engagement meetings will be held as the DeKalb County School District searches for its next leader.

The district announced dates for the community input meetings, to take place in November. BWP & Associates, the firm hired to handle the search, hopes to give the DeKalb County Board of Education a list of candidates by January.

The community meetings are part of a four-step selection process the search firm laid out to board members during their monthly meeting earlier this month.

“Selecting a new superintendent is a significant process that requires that we exercise appropriate due diligence and honor the input and ideas from our community stakeholders,” school board chairman Michael A. Erwin said. “Participation from our parents, students, teachers, business and community partners is critical in helping us shape the leadership profile of what we are looking for in our next superintendent.”

BWP, based on Libertyville, Illinois, will use the sessions to determine more of what they will seek from candidates for the job. Community members can attend the meetings, to be held Nov. 6 and Nov. 7, or answer questions from an online survey that will launch Nov. 4.

Meetings will be held Nov. 6 from 7  to 8 p.m. at Chamblee Charter High School, 3688 Chamblee Dunwoody Road in Chamblee; Tucker High School,5036 Lavista Road in Tucker;  and Lithonia HIgh School, 2440 Phillips Road in LIthonia.

Meetings on Nov. 7 will also begin at 7 p.m. at Clarkston High School 618 North Indian Creek Drive in Clarkston; Miller Grove High School, 2645 DeKalb Medical Parkway in Lithonia; and Cedar Grove High School, 2360 River Road in Ellenwood.
