There are at least five court systems operating in DeKalb County: superior, state, magistrate, probate and juvenile. It’s enough to confuse a veteran attorney, let alone regular folks trying to dispute a traffic ticket or file a lawsuit.

Chief Magistrate Judge Berryl Anderson has created the People’s Law School, a month-long course providing an overview of the various court systems. In four weekly sessions, students will learn about the DeKalb’s local laws and the difference between civil and criminal cases.

These free classes don’t begin until October, but registration is open now. Visit the People’s Law School website to enroll.
