Africa’s Children’s Fund Launches ‘Bag of Hope’ Campaign to Assist Low Income and Homeless During Coronavirus

ATLANTA, Ga. (March 19, 2020) …Africa’s Children’s Fund (ACF) announces the launch of its “Bag of Hope” campaign aimed at soliciting food and monetary donations to fill 10,000 bags with food to donate to families in need. The current coronavirus crisis has elevated the needs of low income and homeless persons, making a demand for food a main priority.

“This is a crisis time for many, and we need to help our communities in this difficult time of need,” said Victor Mbaba, Executive Director and founder of Africa’s Children’s Fund.

“Our organization created this campaign called “Bag of Hope” to respond to this desperate necessity for many. With the donation of 10,000 bags from the UPS Foundation, we are soliciting food donations to fill the bags and donate to families in need. We are teaming up with two other nonprofit organizations to receive donations of food and also seeking monetary donations to buy additional items to facilitate the ‘Bag of Hope’ campaign.”

The ACF ‘Bag of Hope’ campaign will benefit needy in the greater Atlanta communities of DeKalb, Fulton, Clayton, Gwinnett and Henry Counties. With schools closed for an indefinite period of time, many students will miss the only meal they can count on daily. A day without school can mean a day without a meal so we are requesting assistance to help students and their families get the meals they need.   Items needed include rice, beans, bread, cooking oil, noodles, sugar, flour, corn meal, canned foods, and the like. Monetary donations are also severely needed to fulfill the community needs. Food donation drop off locations on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. include:

In addition to the ‘Bag of Hope’ campaign, the Africas Children’s Fund also supports housing programs that provides rental/utility assistance and rapid re-housing in DeKalb, Fulton, Clayton, Gwinnet, and Henry Counties. “One of the families we assisted recently was living in a U-Haul truck having been homeless for more than one year,” added Mbaba.

“We put them up in a hotel for one week and moved them to a twobedroom apartment last Friday. Last year we served 1,481 persons with housing and supportive services.

We are still assisting with housing which is very crucial at this time as well.  “Teaming with the Amazing Grace Ministries in Clayton County and the Single Parents Alliance and Resource Center in Gwinnett allows us to receive the donations of food at multiple locations. We are also seeking monetary donations to buy additional items and facilitate the ‘Bag of Hope’ campaign. Our goal is to give 10,000 bags of food. We need your help to accomplish this goal and support our communities.”

Africa’s Children’s Fund is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1993 by Victor Mbaba. ACF provides food, housing, scholarships and other resources to support children and families in need.
